+ Terri Hill
    President

Terri Hill is president of Nationwide Better HealthSM. In this role, she provides oversight for the company’s day-to-day operations and execution of the strategy. Terri previously served as chairman of Nationwide Better Health and has more than 25 years of business leadership experience. In addition to acting as Nationwide’s executive vice president and chief administrative officer, Terri most recently led Nationwide’s corporate human resources function for five years and was responsible for Nationwide’s own award-winning health and productivity strategy. She started her career with Nationwide in 1996 at Scottsdale Insurance, where she served as senior vice president for human resources and operations. In that role, she oversaw human resources, operations, learning resources, facilities and communications. Before Scottsdale, Terri worked at American Express, where she served in numerous leadership positions. Terri received her bachelor’s in organizational communications from Arizona State University.

Terri practices healthy living by making smart, healthy food choices throughout the day and exercises at least three times week. She believes in the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and gives back to her community by actively serving on several advocacy boards.




+ Mark Beres, C.P.A. (inactive), F.L.M.I., C.L.U., Ch.F.C.
    Chief Financial Officer

Mark Beres is chief financial officer for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, Mark leads the strategic financial planning and measurement for all areas of the office of administration and Nationwide Better Health, with a particular focus on creating value for Nationwide’s functional and business areas. Mark began his career at Nationwide more than two decades ago in internal audit in life and retirement audit. He moved to property and casualty internal audit in 1994 as a manager. In 1996, he transferred to GatesMcDonald and Wausau Insurance as a project director and a few years later he became associate vice president for monopolistic state worker’s compensation operations for GatesMcDonald. In 2003, Mark joined Nationwide finance as assistant controller where he led the FOCUS project planning and budgeting efforts. Mark has also held the role of vice president, performance management, where he led financial forecasting and planning, reporting and analysis, productivity optimization, and performance and rewards before assuming his current role with the office of administration. Mark holds a bachelor's of accounting from the University of Toledo and is a certified public accountant (inactive).

Leading a life of better health …

Mark stays healthy by walking three miles at least five times a week and has eliminated fast food from his diet. He also enjoys landscaping and gardening with his wife.




+ Carol Blaine, M.B.A., C.P.C.U., A.R.P., S.P.H.R.
    Director, Operations, Nationwide Specialty Health

Carol is managing director of operations for Nationwide Specialty Health, a division of Nationwide Better Health that meets specialized health and medical insurance needs of a variety of different segments, including employers, educational institutions, community organizations and individuals. In this role, she provides leadership and direction for the organization's clinical and operational teams accountable for TPA governance and oversight, auditing and due diligence, legal and regulatory compliance and agent licensing and commissions. Carol is a thirty-year insurance industry veteran with more than fifteen years of management experience. She’s led multiple business units including operations, workers’ compensation and long term care third-party administrators, information technology, regulatory compliance, claims, human resources, pricing, product development and corporate communications. Throughout her career, Carol has served at multiple insurance organizations including J.C. Penney Casualty Insurance Company, Midland Mutual Life, American Commerce Insurance Company, Century Insurance Group and, currently, Nationwide Insurance. Carol holds her master’s of business administration from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University where she received the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award. She is a graduate of Larry Wilson’s Pecos River Experience and Innovation Associates’ Quality and Continuous Improvement and Leadership and Mastery programs where she had the distinct pleasure of studying with Peter Senge. Carol chairs the Education Committee for the Ohio Insurance Institute and has presented at numerous conferences including International Quality and Productivity Center’s, “Implementing & Maintaining the Balanced Scorecard in Insurance Companies.” She holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Research and Planning (ARP) designations from the Insurance Institute of America as well as the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the HR Certification Institute.

Carol maintains a daily balanced diet and low-stress routine, and also enjoys the benefits of the Nationwide Better Health lifestyle management program. With the support of her dedicated health coach, she has incorporated stress-reducing tips and tools into her daily routine and has lost eight percent of her body weight since she started her program.




+ Todd Christian, M.B.A.
    Chief of Staff

Todd Christian is chief of staff for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, he leads the project management office to ensure the company is implementing strategic projects that enhance its existing portfolio of offerings and executing these key initiatives on-time and in-full. Todd has more than 17 years of diverse organizational effectiveness and general management experience. Before joining Nationwide nine years ago, Todd served as a general manager and paramedic for Rural/Metro Corporation, a flight paramedic for Mercy Flight Western New York, and an infantry Sergeant in the US Marine Corps reserve. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from University of Phoenix, and a master’s in business management from Arizona State University. Todd serves on the Board of Directors for the Hispanic Chamber of Columbus and actively gives to the United Way every year.

Todd is an avid runner and enjoys competing in half marathons and occasionally triathlons. To stay healthy and active, he runs more than 15 miles per week and eats responsibly. He is an avid outdoorsman and has traveled the country on his motorcycle.




+ Bill Evans
    Executive Vice President, Sales

Bill is the executive vice president of sales for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, he leads the sales team and all business development opportunities for the company’s health and productivity services. Prior to taking this role, Bill was president of GatesMcDonald starting in March 2005, responsible for strategic planning, product development and day-to-day operations for the company’s absence and disability management product lines. Previously, he was chief financial officer and vice president of information systems during his eight years with GatesMcDonald. Before joining GatesMcDonald, Bill worked at Fireman’s Fund Agribusiness, Crop Growers Corporation and KPMG, where he served in a variety of senior accounting and auditing roles. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The Ohio State University and is a certified public accountant (inactive).

Bill keeps fit by playing volleyball in his neighborhood and with a local league, walking or riding his bike every day and simply trying to keep up with his three daughters in their various sporting activities.




+ Neil Gordon, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.C.
    Chief Medical and Science Officer

Dr. Gordon is the chief medical and science officer for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, Dr. Gordon oversees performance and outcomes analysis, benchmarking and methodology, clinical development and quality control for clinical standards along with third-party accreditation and evidence-based research. Dr. Gordon is founder and former chief executive officer of INTERVENT, before the company merged with Nationwide Better Health in April 2007. Dr. Gordon has devoted his career, spanning more than 25 years, to the prevention of cardiovascular disease and other chronic illnesses. He is a board-certified physician, a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, has authored eight books on prevention and more than 100 published scientific manuscripts. Dr. Gordon obtained his M.D. and a Ph.D. in exercise physiology in Johannesburg, South Africa, before relocating to the United States in 1987. He later obtained a master’s degree in public health from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Gordon “practices what he preaches” by eating healthfully and jogging several miles on most days of the week.




+ Melissa Gutierrez, C.L.U., M.B.A.
    Vice President, Nationwide Specialty Health

Melissa is the vice president of Nationwide Specialty Health, a division of Nationwide Better Health that meets specialized health and medical insurance needs of a variety of different segments, including employers, educational institutions, community organizations and individuals. In this role, Melissa oversees all product, sales, marketing and business planning and development activities for Nationwide Specialty Health. She also oversees the GatesMcDonald State Fund and HealthPlus (MCO) businesses, which provide workers’ compensation claims administration and medical management for small employers in Ohio. Melissa joined Nationwide in 1987 and has held a number of positions in sales, marketing and finance. Melissa holds the chartered life underwriter (C.L.U.) designation, a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Franklin University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Dayton.

To stay healthy, Melissa enjoys spending active time with her husband and three boys. She exercises three times a week, believes in taking vacations and plans to summit Mount Rainier with her 17-year-old son in June.




+ Kara Kneidel, M.B.A.
    Chief Information Officer

Kara is chief information officer for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, she provides technology leadership, strategic direction, oversight and consultation for all Nationwide Better Health IT initiatives. Kara has more than 15 years of IT experience and more than 10 years leading and managing IT projects and departments. Prior to joining Nationwide Better Health, she was responsible for development, delivery and support of all corporate human resources applications at Nationwide, including payroll, benefits, compensation and learning management applications, along with associate portal upkeep and redesign and corporate internet initiatives. In previous roles with the company, Kara was director of application architecture for Nationwide Global and held the position of division manager of integrated system services for Nationwide Financial Solutions. Kara holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and management from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and a master’s in business administration from The University of Dayton.

To stay healthy and fit, Kara runs in marathons and half marathons, enjoys bicycling and eats a steady diet of fruits and vegetables.




+ Arlene M. Lynch, J.D.
    Chief Human Resources Officer

Arlene is chief human resources officer for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, she’s responsible for the development and execution of Nationwide Better Health’s talent management, succession planning, leadership development and performance management strategies. With her skilled team of HR professionals, Arlene provides HR service delivery to all Nationwide Better Health associates. A lawyer by training, Arlene has a wide variety of experience leading associate relations, diversity, associate compensation, benefits administration, mergers and acquisitions. Arlene received her bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in art from St. Mary’s at Notre Dame and her juris doctor in law from Capital University.

Arlene stays balanced with a daily routine of morning and evening meditation and regular workouts with a trainer at the neighborhood gym.




+ Eric Motter, M.B.A.
    Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer

Eric is chief marketing and strategy officer for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, Eric oversees the marketing and strategy functions for Nationwide Better Health, including strategic planning, innovation, market research and communications. Before joining the company, Eric was the vice president of marketing and product development at CIGNA Voluntary, where he was responsible for managing strategy, product management, marketing and member enrollment for CIGNA HealthCare's voluntary product portfolio. Previously, Eric held several roles in product management and operations at CIGNA. Prior to joining CIGNA, Eric worked at Mercer Human Resource Consulting as an analyst. Eric holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Ohio University and a master’s in business administration from Cornell University.

To stay healthy and active, Eric works out most days of the week and maintains a healthy diet. He is an avid runner and participates in several half marathons and 5K races throughout the year. Eric also enjoys playing golf and trying to keep up with his two children.




+ Eugene (Gene) Pompili
    Regional Vice President, Workplace Benefits Sales

Eugene (Gene) Pompili is regional vice president of workplace benefits sales for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, Gene leads the sales team and strategic planning initiatives related to our employee benefits product line, and works closely with our proposal generation, client implementation and cross-enterprise partnerships. Between 1991 and 2007, Gene held roles of increasing responsibility with MetLife and Prudential and earned numerous distinctions in group insurance sales. As business development director for MetLife’s Institutional eBusiness Group, he helped drive significant e-commerce growth and was appointed to a cross-enterprise research team charged with evaluating competitive landscape, building a business case and launching a new line of business. As a result of that initiative, Gene was promoted to managing director for the company’s workplace benefits business where he managed a national sales and client management team. Prior to joining Nationwide Better Health, Gene was an executive search consultant for CTPartners, a global professional services consultancy. As a member of the firm’s Insurance and Technology practice, he led search assignments for senior executives responsible for sales, technology, finance and product development. Gene holds a degree in economics from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.

+ Claire Rossé, R.N., M.B.A.
    Chief Health and Productivity Officer

Claire is chief health and productivity officer for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, she oversees the design, creation, revision and implementation of new health and productivity management products and services, maintains program requirements and ensures the integrity and execution of Nationwide Better Health products and services across all locations. Claire is founder and former president of FutureHealth, before the company merged with Nationwide Better Health in January 2006. Claire possesses nearly 30 years of experience in business management, new product development, health care administration and consulting. Prior to founding FutureHealth, Claire was executive vice president of Willse and Associates (now CareFirst Administrators) and has held senior-level positions at BlueCross BlueShield of Maryland. She is a registered nurse and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Baltimore.

To stay healthy and active, Claire eats healthy meals, performs aerobics exercises four times per week and participates in weight training sessions with a personal trainer twice a week.




+ Marwan Shiblaq, M.B.A.
    Chief Operations Officer

Marwan is chief operations officer for Nationwide Better Health’s health and productivity services. In this role, he oversees the health, medical, absence and disability operations teams across all locations. With Marwan’s guidance, the operations team places a focus on ensuring the consistent delivery of all service commitments to customers. Marwan joined Nationwide Better Health as associate vice president of sales, client and marketing services. Prior to joining Nationwide Better Health, Marwan was at Nationwide for 14 years, starting in 1993 in the property casualty business. He held numerous leadership positions throughout the company, including participation in a cross-organizational internal initiative that included analyzing, developing, selecting and launching the company's health promotion program. Marwan holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Franklin University, and a master’s in business administration from Capital University.

To stay healthy and active, Marwan likes to spend time swimming, jogging and trying to keep up with his three little boys.




+ David Underhill
    AVP, Product Development, Nationwide Specialty Health

David is an associate vice president of product development for Nationwide Specialty Health, a division of Nationwide Better Health that meets specialized health and medical insurance needs of a variety of different segments, including employers, educational institutions, community organizations and individuals. In this role, David oversees all product development, underwriting and actuarial/pricing functions for Nationwide Specialty Health. David joined Nationwide in June of 2008. Prior to joining Nationwide, he held various leadership roles in marketing and product development. Most recently, David was responsible for managing product strategy, product development and marketing for the specialty products at Anthem/WellPoint. Prior to joining Anthem/WellPoint, David worked at Grange Insurance as the director of marketing and product development for individual life and disability products. David received bachelor’s in family resource management from The Ohio State University.

David exercises two times a week and focuses on making healthy food choices. He also enjoys spending time doing outdoor activities.
